The Journey To Slavery: The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano

Olaudah was in a "Igbo-speaking region of Nigeria" but was seized and then at the age of eleven he was sold into the Atlantic Slave Trade. He had three different owners however hewas different from a lot of other slaves. "He learned to read and write, traveled extensively as a seaman aboard one of his masters ships, and was allowed to buy his freedom in 1766."

In this narrative Olaudah talks about "two men got over our walls and in a moment seized us both and without giving us time to cry out, or make resistance, they stopped our mouths, and ran off with us into the nearest woods." The next day him and his sister we seperated and they were sold into the slavery. Olaudah was sold multiple times to different owners and was used for different types of work.

The last merchant that bought him, took him home and was "washed and purfumed and when meal time came" he was lead so that he may drink and eat. He explained that this made him forget that he was once a slave.

He also includes the time when he was on the boat and he remembers seeing a white man in particular that had a large rope and was tossed out on the side of the boat. He also remembers the smels of the boat and how he felt "suffocated." He can hear the screams of the women on the boat and how scared everyone was on the boat.
