Chapter 19:

This week in class we had to divide into 3 different groups. These three groups talked about China, Ottoman Empire, and Japan during the 17th-19th centruries. My group specifically talked about China. We talk about how China avoided European colonies and also resisted agression and reform from European societies.

In 1793 the British requested to have an open trade with China, however the denied this because they didnt want the Europeans to come in and take over. In about 100 years later China would see the effects of their denial. In 1912 China collapsed and became weak and dependent "participate to Europeans domination."

We also talked about the four dimensions of European power
1.) Strong Military and Strong political ambitions.
2.) Emmeshed network of trade, investment, and migration from European industrialization
3.) Traditional European Culture
4.) Engaged in Culture of modernity

We had an exam question that we had to ask the class and our question was...
What accounts for the massive peasent rebellation of the 19th century?
Answer- During this time there was a huge peasent uprising becasue their was no government and agricultural or industrial revolution. Because of this, the country couldnt keep up with the demand of their population. Many people became poor and gangs led peasents and others into a rebellion.

The common theme between all three of the countries in this chapter is that they all had Western European Influences. China had an opuim war. Ottoman Empire reformed and western migration took over. Lastly Japan adopted western imperialism in order to show power status.
