Chapter 21
In Chapter 21 it discussed the end of communism as well as socialism. Communism is a "political theory advocating class war and leading the society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs." This was inspired by the teachings of Karl Marx. Karl Marx "was a German philosopher, economist, historian, sociologist, political theorist, journalist and socialist revolutionary." He beleived that people can "achieve their goals peacefully and through a democratic process, those who defined themselves as communists in the 20th century disdained such reformism and advocated uncompromising revolution." (Pg 930) Socialism is something different however. Socialism is a "political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned and regulated by the community as a whole." In marxs theory he believed that "a transitional social state between the overthrown of capitalism and the realization of communism."
This chapter also touched basis on the Cold War which was "a period of geographical tension between the Soviet Union and the United States after Wold War 2. During this time their were threats between the two countries. This was called the Cold War because during this time their were no type of physical violence that was caused. This war was based on economic, political, and propaganda actions. Their was no real war between Russia and The US. There were threats of nucular attacks however that never happened because that would kill all of man. The Us and the Soviet Union came together on the date of December 8th, 1987 and signed the Intermediate Range Nuclear Force Treaty. This treaty is "an arms controled treaty" signed by president Ronald Reagan of the United States and by Soviet General Mikhail Gorbachev. In 1991 however, the Solviet Union suffered from the "fall of communism."
